PTE Fill in the Blanks (Reading & Writing)

The ‘Reading and Writing Fill in the blanks’ task in the PTE Academic test is meant to assess the test taker’s understanding of the text. It involves making use of one’s knowledge of grammar and vocabulary and make accurate decisions with speed.

The candidates are given a text with a few blanks between them. Each blank has a drop-down box that has suggestive answers. The candidates are required to choose the correct answer from the given options that go best with the context & adds meaning to it.

Solving fill in the blanks (reading & writing) is an art and needs a strategy. While there is no perfect way of solving fill in the blanks easily, there are a few things one can keep in mind to solve it. Tips to Improve PTE Fill in the Blanks (R&W)

1. Blank after an article (a, an, the) there will always be a noun (a, an, the + noun).

2. Blank between the article and the noun will always be an adjective (a, an, the + adjective + noun).

3. Blank right after a possessive pronoun (his, her, there, our, mine, your) there will always be a noun (possessive pronoun + noun).
4. Blank right after the helping verb (is, are, am, was, were) there will be either third form or continuous form with ing.
5. Blank right after a possessive pronoun (his, her, there, our, mine, your) and noun there will always be an adjective (possessive pronoun + adjective + noun).
6. Blank right after the word (be, been) there will be either third form of verb or continuous form with ing.
7.  Blank right after (to) it will be the first form of the verb.
8. Blank right after (for, while) you have to use continuous form of verb (for, while + continuous form of verb).
9. Blank right after (it, which, that) you have to use plural form of verb (s, es).
10. Blank after (has, have, had) use past participle of verb.
11. Blank right after (a, an) there will always be a singular noun.
12. Blank right after (can, could, may, will, would, shall, should) there will always be first form of verb.
13. Time is shared.
14. Most important question in reading module.
15. Be confident and do not hesitate.
16. Do not skip question un-attempted.
17. Overall question 4-5 and each carry equal points.
18. Total points are 44.4.
